METHODS OF DOCUMENTATION AND MEASURED DRAWINGS

METHODS OF DOCUMENTATION & MEASURED DRAWINGS is a short sem that require us to document a building in three documentation methods: measured drawings, written documentation and photographic documentation. In a group of 28, we were given the Former Royal Museum known as the Istana Negara Lama in Kuala Lumpur as our building for this project. This project will require us to produce an individual 10 sketches of our understanding on the significance of the building, a report, a photobook, a video, a set of measured drawings of the building and a physical model of the building.
PROJECT 1 : SKETCHBOOK & JOURNAL
For this individual project, we were required to produce 10 sketches that give a strong idea of the place that we have carried out in the Measured Drawing exercise. The building that we got for this project was the Former Royal Museum Balairung, Kuala Lumpur. Not only that, we were also required to add caption for each sketch, annotating vital information about what is captured in the sketches.

REFLECTION
In this project I've learnt how to better interpret and analyze the building and the ‘genius loci’ of the place by sketching out the importance essence of the building. Not only that, I've also learnt to capture the tangible and intangible essence that is contained within the architecture of the building.
PROJECT 2 : BUILDING REPORT AND VIDEO
For the second project, each group was required to create a report documenting the overall analysis of our building. The report has to elaborate on the significance of the building measured from various aspects such as architectural, historical and cultural. We were also required to relate the architecture of the building to its significance, highlighting how the two support the inhabitation of the building. Not only that, we were also asked to create a photobook and a video representing our site. With a team of 28, a report, photobook and a video was nicely produced.

REFLECTION
In this project I've learnt how to better document and analyze a building as well as to analyze the relationship between architecture and the significance of the building as well as its inhabitation.
PROJECT 3 : MEASURED DRAWINGS & MODEL
In groups of assigned number of members, depending on the size and complexity of the building to be measured, were were required to do a measuring exercise on a particular building, taking all physical information of the building, from its location to its spatial layout as well as details. For this part of the project, each group have to produce a set of measured drawings of our respective building. Not only that, were also asked to do a physical model to show the construction / structure of the building showing one section or an open-able full model. With a team of 28 people, a series of AutoCAD drawings of the Balairung were intensively produced and an axono model of the Balairung was awesomely made.

REFLECTION
Honestly, I've had so much fun in this semester. I never thought I will be able to do all these thing in a short period of time.
That includes, the sleepless night of cadding, doing report and model with my team. I've learnt a lot in this project and I am so proud of my team! Couldn't have done it without all of them. I would also like to thank our lecturers, Dr Yati, Ms Alia & Ar Chin for guiding, helping and supporting us through out this projects. I would also like to thank our Team Leader, Daniel Rosien for coordinating everything so well! We got the best team work as everyone helped each other and working hard in getting the work done on time.
I am really happy to be part of this amazing team.
