BUILDING SERVICES

PROJECT 1 : APPLICATION OF BUILDING SERVICES 

In this project, we were required to  demonstrate our understanding of building services by proposing and designing the most appropriate systems for our building in design project in semester 2 (Retreat House). The systems include electrical supply system, cold water and hot water supply system, sewerage and sanitary system and drainage system. We are also required to produce appropriate drawings and diagrams which include specifications, symbols, legends, images, texts, etc. to describe the planning and installation of all the building services. We may also include specific clauses from the Uniform Building By-Law (UBBL) or other relevant Acts, Laws or guidelines which relate to the proposed systems into our presentation boards.

REFLECTION

This project have taught me to have better understanding of building services by proposing and designing the most appropriate systems for a building. It also encourage me to become more aware of the importance in the planning of building services systems and the impact it may have on my designs.  Lastly, the project also taught me on how to draw a schematic drawing with the right symbols and annotation. 

PROJECT 2 : CASE STUDY & DOCUMENTATION OF BUILDING SERVICES SYSTEMS

In a group of 6, we were required to choose a building of 5-storey high which can be either public or commercial buildings. Each group is to perform a thorough study and analysis of the following services systems associated to the building. The services systems include mechanical ventilation, air-conditioning system, fire protection system (active and passive fire protection system) and mechanical transportation system. For this project, my group has chosen Ikon Connaught as the building. My group consist of Lim Chin Yi, Kimberley Ee, Wei Ling, Farah Akmal, and Shery Edrina.

Report 

REFLECTION

First of all, I would like to thank Mr Siva (My tutor) for teaching, helping and guiding us through out the projects. This project helped me to improve my understanding on the installation of the systems used in a building and the rules & regulations of a particular system. Not only that, it also helped me to better understand the services plan and schematic drawings of a building.
